The AR turntable (XA) was a minimalist, belt-driven design with a suspended subchassis intended to isolate the platter and arm from footfalls and cabinet resonance, a concept that influenced generations of turntables that followed, including the Linn LP12. Sold at a strikingly low price for its performance, it made low-rumble, low-wow-and-flutter playback accessible to listeners who couldn't afford premium idler-drive or direct-drive decks of the era.
